Two vehicles torched after murder of ANP activist

Following the killing of ANP worker, tension prevailed in several parts of Sohrab Goth where unidentified miscreants resorted to gunfire and torched two vehicles in the limits of Sohrab Goth police station on Friday. According to police, an activist of ANP Khairuddin Mehsud, 30, son of Sohrab Khan Mehsud was gunned down near his residence located in Hassan Noman Colony in the jurisdiction of Sohrab Goth police station.
They said the victim lost his life in a drive-by shooting on Friday. The body was shifted to nearby private hospital where doctors pronounced him dead. Later, the body was moved to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medico-legal formalities.
After the killing, scores of people gathered at main superhighway and staged a protest demonstration to express resentment against the said incident. The protesters, who burnt tires and pelted stones on moving vehicles to block the highway, also set two vehicles on fire. Later, heavy contingents of police and Rangers rushed to the spot and fired teargas shells and used batons to disperse the protesters that caused massive traffic jam for hours. Police has detained over a half dozen miscreants from the spot. Meanwhile, SHO Ghaffar Jumani said the deceased was the former president of ANP in the Hassan Noman Colony and was working for ANP Ward 18. No case was registered till filing of this report.
