In a follow up and revival of NRO cases by National Accountability Bureau (Sindh), Agha Ishrat Ali, Assistant Director, FIA has been jailed by Accountability Court No 2, Karachi. NAB is proceeding with precision and swiftness after appointment of its Chairman, Admiral (retired) Fasih Bokhari, and the prosecution and investigation officers of NAB have regained their confidence and are moving ahead as per rules of National Accountability Ordinance 1999.
According to a NAB (Sindh) press release, FIA Assistant Director acquired properties which were not justified by him and beyond his known sources of income. His bank accounts showed huge amounts credited to his bank and he was unable to justify the amounts. His total liability is of Rs 35.735 million.
In another reference with the Accountability Court No 2, Karachi, it was alleged by NAB Sindh that businessman Shaikh Shahid Omar of Queens Polyester Karachi offered export of 160 metric tons of DOP to CJ Polymer Sdn Bhd (Pvt) Ltd, Kuala Lumpur and requested for advanced telegraphic cost of DOP.
The Malaysian firm remitted 104.8 million dollars which was credited in the account of accused person but he did not fulfil the contractual obligations and misappropriated the said amount. He has been convicted and awarded seven years rigorous imprisonment and Rs 0.5 million fine. Besides all assets in his name, dependents and benamidar to be forfeited and sold out and money so recovered be remitted to CJ Polymers Sdn Bhd (Pvt) Ltd, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
