Petitioner seeks Supreme Court's direction to stay Senate polls

A petition seeking a apex court's direction for the government to stay the Senate elections, scheduled to be held on March 2, 2012, till the holding of forthcoming general election of the National and provincial assemblies, was filed with the Supreme Court here on Wednesday.
The petition was filed by Dr Abid Rauf Aurakzai through Tariq Asad advocate under Article 184 (3) of the Constitution, making the federation through Secretary Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Election Commission of Pakistan through the Chief Election Commissioner and Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister as respondents.
