The Consulate General of Japan, Karachi on Monday extended a grant of Rs 8.6 million to Starfish Karachi, a local Christian NGO, for the construction of Starfish Vocational Training Centre at SITE Town in Karachi. According to details, a contract was signed in Karachi by Masabaru Sato, Consul General of Japan, Karachi and Anser Javed, Chairman of Starfish Karachi at Japan Culture Center of the Consulate General of Japan in Karachi.
The Japanese grant shall be used for the construction of a two-storied building with nine rooms and for the installation of the necessary equipment for the vocational training courses. This vocational training centre shall provide training courses in seven different areas - auto mechanic, mechanic, electrician, computer software, computer repair, sewing and hairdressing. Each training course will accommodate 15 people every half year and it is expected to train 210 people annually.
At the signing ceremony, Sato, Consul General of Japan said that these vocational training courses would enable the graduates to find proper technical jobs, improve their livelihoods, and in doing so they could contribute to the society through their work.
