GSMA Global Mobile Awards UBL Omni gets nominated

Published Updated

United Bank's Branch-less Banking Division, 'Omni' is an established name in offering G2P Payments Services. It is one of the largest branch-less banking cash disbursement initiatives to date and has proved to be a quick and transparent mechanism for cash disbursements made by Government of Pakistan and NGOs to below-the-poverty-line segments of the population and people in need of humanitarian assistance.
Now UBL Omni's efforts have been recognised at a global level with nominations for the 17th GSMA Global Mobile Awards 2012. UBL Omni has been short-listed in the category of "Best Product, Initiative or Service for Under-served Segments" and "Best Use of Mobile in Emergency or Humanitarian Situations" for a transparent and efficient cash disbursement service via initiatives by GoP, UNDP and WFP after the 2009 IDPs and 2010 flood crises.
A record number of entries were sent to this year's award, six hundred in total for 31 categories. Out of this, 158 organisations from across the world and from across the mobile eco-system made it to the shortlist. More than 170 independent analysts, journalists, academics and subject matter experts throughout the world participated in judging of the awards. The winners will be presented on 28th February at GSMA Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain.-PR
