Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) held a training workshop on "Agriculture Development and Livelihood Programme" under the UNDP-funded project "Early Recovery of Flood-Affected Areas of KP" here at Kabul River in district Nowshera. More than 70 growers from different villages of the area participated in the workshop.
Dr Sanaullah, an agriculture expert, delivered a comprehensive lecture regarding latest harvesting techniques and mechanism of pre- and post-flood recovery. Ms Noor Zeb Provincial Co-ordinator of UNDP-funded programme, Asif Durrani former Nazim and Qader Khattak programme co-ordinator district Nowshera were also present at the inaugural session of the workshop.
Ms Noor Zeb in her opening remarks briefed about the Early Recovery Programme and its other benefits for growers affected by flash floods in the province. She further added that programme has been launched in worst-affected districts from flood, saying that the training's basic objective is to sensitise and aware the farmers regarding protective measures and modern methods for yielding their crops in a better form. She informed that the training session has gradually conducted in other flood-hit areas under the programme to extend its benefits to the growers.
During the training, Dr Sanaullah informed the participants about the pre- and post-protection methods and latest techniques for yielding their crops. He stressed the need of using modern harvesting techniques for quality production. He said that productivity has immense declined to flash floods in the areas, adding that the programme would be beneficial to build the capacity of the growers.
Dr Sanullah said that most of the farmers are not aware of the latest agriculture techniques and methods. He added that crops quality wouldn't be improved without using of modern tools of agriculture. He stressed the need for equipping farmers with latest agriculture inputs to cultivate quality and cash crops in the province. He informed the participants about using of pesticide medicines for protection of crops and using of quality seeds and fertilisers to get bumper crops.
