Speaker of Indian Lok Sabha Mrs Meira Kumar will arrive here on February 21 on a five-day state visit to Pakistan. She will be accompanied by a seven-member parliamentary delegation, comprising members of the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha. The Speaker of Lok Sabha is visiting Pakistan on the invitation of Speaker of the National Assembly Dr Fehmida Mirza.
The visit is aimed at forging better ties and future co-operation between the two parliaments. The visit also carries a special significance for both Pakistan and India who currently have women speakers in their parliament's lower houses. A formal welcome ceremony for the distinguished guests will be held at the Parliament House on Tuesday evening when the Indian Speaker will arrive there to meet Dr Fehmida Mirza. During her stay in Pakistan, the Speaker Lok Sabha will call on President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani and Senate Chairman Farooq H. Naek. In the last leg of the visit, the delegation will proceed to Lahore where it will meet Governor Punjab, Chief Minister and Speaker of the Punjab Assembly.
