Following the prevailing law and order situation of Lyari where miscreants took to streets and killed two more persons, the law enforcement agencies are about to kick off massive surgical operation in the area. According to police and eyewitnesses, unidentified armed men, who resorted to heavy gunshots and also fired three rockets, have established pickets in Lyari for armed resistance with rivals.
They said the wave of vandalism intensified when unknown armed men kidnapped two persons namely Ali Muhammad alias Baba son of Abdul Latif and Imran son of Yousuf when they were on the way to work in rickshaw at Shah Abdul Latif Bhattai road. They said the kidnappers after applying severe torture took both of them at Ahmad Shah Bukhari road where they sprayed Baba with bullets while his friend Imran offered resistance and managed to flee from the scene. The deceased Baba was a welder by his profession and going to get married after six months.
Following the said killings, tension prevailed in many parts of Lyari, including Bachal goth, Juma goth, Angora goth, Bihar colony and others where scores of people belonging to Katchi community gathered and staged protest demonstration to express resentments over the said incident.
The protesters, who burnt tyres and chanted slogans against rivals, announced to bring the body of Baba at Bilawal House and stage sit-in against such insecure condition of the locality. Reacting on this announcement, high officials of police reached at Lyari and tried to disperse the protesters. Meanwhile, miscreants had fired a rocket at Gul Muhammad Street and gunned down former UC Nazim and a member of Katchi Rabita Committee (KRC) Umer Katchi, 48 son of Yousuf that caused to infuriate the protesters. They said the rocket did not cause harm to anyone but damaged the outer wall of the house. The reports of two more rockets at Qayyam Bakery were received but no official has confirmed the same. Keeping the current deteriorating law and order situation in view, heavy contingent of police and rangers were deployed in the area. Sources said the law enforcement agencies (LEAs) are presently busy in giving final touches to its strategy for massive search operation, which is going to be kicked off at any moment. They said the inhabitants of the area were not co-operating with the LEAs as women and the children took on streets and started protesting against the expected search operations. Therefore, the LEAs are taking time to minimise the chance of human loss during surgical operations in the area.
