Pak-Afghan border liaison committee: Collection of inadmissible levies by LEAs to be checked

The border liaison committee of Pakistan and Afghanistan would convene monthly meeting to check any collection of inadmissible levies by the law enforcement agencies of both the countries during transportation of goods from Pakistan to Central Asian Republic (CARs) through Afghanistan.
Sources told Business Recorder on Saturday that the same principle will apply to goods which will come to Pakistan through Afghanistan from CARs. The border liaison committee of Pakistan and Afghanistan has been especially setup to check any possibility of collection of inadmissible levies by the LEAs of both the countries.
It has been apprehended that the Pakistani exporters are giving inadmissible levies during transportation of goods from Pakistan to CARs through land route of Afghanistan. Pakistani exporters have raised the issue with the customs authorities and the same has been discussed during the last meeting of the customs authorities of both the countries at Pakistan.
The regular meetings of the Border Liaison Committee to be chaired by the Collector of Customs would be attended by the law enforcement agencies like Frontier Constabulary, district administrations and representatives of the provincial governments. One meeting would be held in Pakistan and the next in Afghanistan on monthly basis.
If the meeting is held in Pakistan, the representative of the customs department of Afghanistan would attend the Border Liaison Committee. In case the meeting is convened in Afghanistan, a senior customs official of Pakistan would participate in the meeting in Afghanistan.
The main purpose of the meeting of the Border Liaison Committee is to place an effective check on any kind of illegal payments made by exporters to law enforcement agencies during their exports of goods from Pakistan to Central Asian Republic through Afghanistan.
