World Water Assembly's Chief Co-ordinator Hafiz Zahoorul Hassan Dahar claimed on Wednesday that India utilised 0.4 million troops and scud missiles to change the direction of Pakistani rivers to south from north. Addressing a news conference here, he further said that India distributed billions of dollars in Pakistan to keep opinion leaders and policy-makers silent on the horrible water aggression.
He alleged that corrupt establishment and many civil society activists were on Indian payroll as they opposed all dam projects. He declared that he was going to launch a Save the Rivers movement (Darya Bachao Tehreek) from Multan Press Club on February 21. He urged upon the nation to join hands with him and come out of their homes to foil this Indian and Jewish conspiracy against Pakistan.
He said that after failing in ground war, India had launched a water war against Pakistan and illegal occupation of Kashmir was part of vicious Indian plan to turn Pakistan into a desert. He added that India diverted the flow of three rivers including Sutlej and Ravi and ceased water flow to Pakistan in sheer violation of international laws.
Citing an example, he said that over 250 rivers in the world passed through more than one countries and international laws gave much bigger share of water to the tale countries instead of the ones coming earlier. He said that keeping in view Indian designs, Pakistan wanted to take water issue to the UNO but big powers did not permit Pakistan to do so. "Instead they brokered Sindh Taas Agreement in 1960 which was contrary to the charter of international human rights. He claimed that Pakistan and India would return to the position of 1947 if Sindh Taas Agreement was challenged in world court of law.
He said the eastern rivers like Ravi, Sutlej and Bias were Pakistani rivers and Indian share stood at just eight million acre feet water while 24 million acre feet water was Pakistan's share. He pointed out that India constructed Bhakra Dam in clear violation of international laws as the laws strictly prohibited blocking water flow of any live river.
