Government urged to stop collecting unfair taxes on POL products

Agriculture Forum Pakistan Chairman Muhammad Ibrahim Mughal has alleged that the government is collecting Rs 250 billion per annum from the masses by levying unfair taxes on diesel and petrol. While talking to media here on Thursday, Mughal claimed that the government was receiving Rs 20 per litre in shape of taxes from the consumers and earning Rs 180 billion per annum on use of diesel in the country.
He claimed that Pakistanis were using 9 billion litres of diesel and 3 billion litres of petrol per annum and termed heavy taxation on these as unfair. Mughal urged the government to stop collecting unfair taxes from the masses to ease economic burden on them. Agri Forum Chairman was of the view that the government was levying taxes on people just to meet their lavish expenses.
He said four billion litres of diesel is used by the agricultural sector in the country out of total 9 billion litre diesel consumed in the country. It shows that even agriculture was paying Rs 80 billion per annum in the taxes and they would get not a single rupee benefit in return, he added.
