Activists of Islami Jamiat Talaba (IJT) allegedly detained Hostel No 1 Superintendent Assistant Professor Dr Munawar Sabir and his family in his house after he locked rooms of illegal occupants of the hostel. Dr Munawar Sabir locked the rooms of illegal occupants of the hostel the previous night and in reaction, some activists of IJT locked the house of Superintendent.
An emergency meeting of Executive Council of the Punjab University Teachers Front (PUTF) was held here on Saturday, in which members of Syndicate Professor Dr Shaukat Ali, Assistant Professor Javed Sami and Lecturer Shumaila Gul participated among others. The meeting strongly denounced the incident of illegally detaining Hostel No 1 Superintendent Assistant Professor Dr Munawar Sabir and fully expressed solidarity with him.
The participants demanded Punjab government that police may be instructed to launch operation with the help of university administration to oust rogue elements of Islami Jamiat Talaba so that students could continue their studies in a peaceful academic atmosphere. The participants also demanded of the university administration to initiate legal action against the goons of IJT in not time. Meanwhile, a Punjab University Spokesman has strongly condemned Islami Jamiat Talaba for illegally detaining Superintendent Hostel No 1 Assistant Professor Dr Munawar Sabir. He said the administration would take disciplinary action against the illegal boarders in the hostels. It is pertinent of mention here that Dr Munawar Sabir locked the rooms of illegal occupants of the hostel the previous night and in reaction, some activists of IJT locked the house of Superintendent and poured "elfi" into it.
The spokesman further said that the administration neither in the past nor now would be blackmailed by these elements. The spokesman said criminals were operating in the ranks of Islami Jamiat Talba (IJT) and warned it to stop backing culprits. He said the administration, following its previous policies, would not allow these hooligans to disturb the peaceful academic environment of the varsity and would take disciplinary action against them.
