Directorate of Colleges official beaten up

The Additional Director (HR) at Regional Directorate of Colleges, Karachi, was beaten up by a brother of a lady lecturer for "unnecessary delay' in file of transfer; Business Recorder learnt on Thursday. Khalid Ahmed, brother of a lady lecturer, rushed into the office of Additional Director (HR) Bashir Ahmed Shaikh and asked him for verification of file of his sister, a lady lecturer posted in a local college of Karachi.
The situation turned ugly when Khalid manhandled Additional Director Bashir and beat him up in his office, but timely intervention by staff saved Bashir from getting more torture. Talking to this scribe Khalid said that his sister is a lecturer in a college in Karachi and her file of transfer from one college to another college is pending in the office of Bashir Ahmed for last 10 days for the purpose of verification.
He alleged that the Bashir was asking for Rs 3,000 for the verification. "Why should I pay kickbacks for a valid and legal work?" he said, adding that "I only will pay this amount for the legal and due matter." He said that this is job of Bashir to conduct verification of every lecturer without any charges but he has opened shop for bribe and is looting innocent people.
Sources in Regional Directorate of Colleges Karachi told Business Recorder in this regard that malpractices at the office of Regional Directorate of Colleges Karachi are on the rise as officials are asking for kickbacks for transfer of lecturers from one college to another college.
They said that lecturers who want to get transferred from one college to other are facing hardship in verification of their files from directorate office to get transfer orders. Sources said that Additional Director Human Resource, Bashir Ahmad Shaikh is on the verge of his retirement and he is trying hard to mint money through illegal practices as more as possible.
In this connection, Bashir refused to talk on the issue and said that some anti-education elements are hatching conspiracy against honest officers like him. The spokesman of Education Department Zafar Lehbar told Business Recorder that he will tell the Minister about the matter and inquiry would be conducted against the corrupt officers.
