Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of Sindh Police on Friday claimed to have arrested seven notorious criminals including Lyari gangsters in separate raids at various parts of the metropolis here. According to SIU Chief SSP Shahjahan, the SIU team had arrested Kashif, Nadeem, Tariq Hussain, Hanif, Amir, Sattar Bugti and Ghulam Ali, and recovered two hand grenades and seven TT pistols from their possessions.
He said the arrests were made in separate raids at Surjani, Manghopir and Gulshan-e-Iqbal areas and added that accused Nadeem and Kashif were involved in hurling hand grenade at hardware shop in Liaquatabad over the refusal to fulfil the extortion demand of Rs 0.5 million.
He said those accused persons, who were the active members of Ghaffar Zikri, a notorious gangster of Lyari, were involved in the murders of five persons and other heinous crimes. Moreover, he said the detained Sattar and Ghulam, who were also Lyari gangsters and were planning to flare up terrorists activities in the city, had been nabbed on secret information.
However, accused Tariq Hussain alias Humayun, Hanif and Amir were also extortionists and demanded a ransom of Rs 0.5 million from a senior doctor of Qatar Hospital namely Ejaz. Shahjahan said those three extortionists were taken into custody after brief encounter at Gulshan-e-Iqbal. The cases were registered against them and further investigation was underway to nab their other accomplices.
