The University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) and Jassar Farms Private Limited have inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to work in collaboration to help improve the economic competiveness of dairy and livestock sectors by facilitating the farmers with the focus on improving genetic potential of dairy cattle.
UAF Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan and Jassar Farms Chairman Shaukat M Iqbal duly signed the accord at VC Chamber. According to the accord, the both parties have agreed on the need to synergies their efforts, benefit from each other experiences, minimise the duplication of the efforts and the work in collaboration. The project is aimed at maximise knowledge base in the genetic improvement areas through various primary and applied research activities.
They will also take the information collection and dissemination initiatives for raising dairy farmers awareness on technology techniques and practices to enhance productivity with the focus on usage of high quality semen, embryo transfer technology, animal nutrition and superior farm management practices.
Talking to the delegation, the UAF Vice Chancellor said that Pakistan is blessed with the all seasons, best cropping systems and highly quality soil but still we are far lagging behind in the agriculture because of traditional practices of farming. He said we are still cultivating with seed broadcasting method that has become an outdated practice. He said if we use the mechanism of sowing the seeds with drills technology, we can increase the productivity manifold.
