The Human Rights Committee (HRC) of Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) on Friday decided to constitute its committees at provincial and district level. It also decided to publish its yearly report on human rights violations in the country. The decisions were taken at a meeting of PBC's Human Rights Committee held here with Salahuddin Panhwar in the chair, which was also attended by its members Muhammad Ahsan Bhoon, Muhammad Ramzan Chaudhry and Syed Qalb-i-Hassan, who was a special invitee.
Apart from transacting other business on its agenda, the committee also requested Syed Qalb-i-Hassan, PBC member, to nominate members of the Human Rights Committees for Rawalpindi division. The meeting decided that for Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisalabad and Sargodha divisions, the committees would be constituted by Muhammad Ahsan Bhoon and Muhammad Ramzan Chaudhry.
PBC members Mian Abbas Ahmad and Azam Nazeer Tarar would nominate members of the committees for Multan, Bahawalpur and D.G Khan divisions. The committee requested Abdul Lateef Afridi and Rooh-ul-Amin Chamkani, Vice-Chairman and member of the PBC, respectively, to constitute committees for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
The meeting decided that Zahoor Ahmad Shahwani, president Balochistan High Court Bar Association; Munir Ahmad Kakar and Kamran Murtaza, members, Balochistan Bar Council would jointly constitute the same committees for Balochistan province. It decided that Akhtar Hussain, PBC member, would constitute committees for Karachi division, whereas Salahuddin Panhwar and Muhammad Yaseen Azad would constitute committees for rest of the Sindh province.
These members of the PBC were authorised to associate any member of the provincial bar council in the matter of constitution of human rights committees of the PBC for the respective areas. The committee also decided that the PBC would publish an annual report on human rights violations in Pakistan at the end of every year.
