Separated child-parent meeting: LHC seeks D&SJ report by March 8

Lahore High Court's Chief Justice here Friday directed District and Sessions Judge to submit his report by March 8 about the mode of meetings of children with their separated parents in family courts. The court also asked advocates Asma Jehangir and Shahzad Malik to assist the court as amicus curiae to modify the method of the meetings.
The court passed these orders in a petition filed by a citizen, Tariq Nawaz, who contended that family courts call separated-parents and children for their meeting two hours twice a month. He said this time is too short for the meeting. He also said children watch criminals in handcuff in the court premises, which affects their minds and personality. He pointed out that in foreign countries such children meet their parents in their houses, which helps children and parents come nearer to each other. He, therefore, prayed to the court to change mode of the meetings.
