Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on Thursday informed the National Assembly that he would appear before the Supreme Court of Pakistan in the contempt of court case. Speaking in the National Assembly he said, "I respect the judiciary and will appear again before the apex court on February 13."
He reiterated that all institutions must remain in their constitutional domains, saying that they were all answerable to the parliament. He was responding to a point raised by Opposition Leader Ch. Nisar Ali Khan in the National Assembly. Referring to the 20th Constitutional Amendment Bill‚ Gilani said his government would accommodate any suggestion to improve it further.
He said that throughout the PPP's tenure they had worked to protect and strengthen institutions. "Every body should follow the constitution of Pakistan," he urged. The prime minister further said he approved recommendations regarding perks and privileges of the parliamentarians‚ which have been sent to the Law and Justice Ministry.
