Economic indicators positive: Extension in Pasha's contract not discussed: Prime Minister

Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has said that Drug Regulatory Authority to monitor the quality of medicines could not be established in the country due to disagreement of the Punjab government. Talking to media after returning from Davos here on Sunday, Gilani said that except Punjab, all the three provincial governments were in agreement for Drug Regulatory Authority.
The prime minister said that drug regulatory authority across the world was controlled by the Centre but Pakistan was without such an authority because of the differences.
He said that Pakistan 's economic indicators were very positive and the country's economy was moving the right direction. He said that President would address the Parliament on the commencement of new parliamentary year. About DG ISI extension, he said that matter of his extension was not discussed. "World is more informed than us about the Pakistan economic situation," he added.
He said that the by-elections would be held as per schedule and Election Commission of Pakistan in this regard submitted its view point to the Supreme Court of Pakistan, which was also clarified by the court.
"We will ensure free and fair general elections in the country," he said adding that efforts would be made to reach consensus with the opposition on "Election Commission Bill" and expressed optimism for the passage of 20th Constitutional Amendment with consensus.
About restoration of Nato supply route, he said that the decision about Nato supply route would be taken by the Parliament in the light of recommendations submitted by the Parliamentary Committee on National Security. He said that both the issues, Nato supply route and terms of engagements for future's relations with the US, were referred to the Parliamentary Committee for submission of recommendations after consideration and deliberation on all the aspects and dimensions.
