Pakistan People's Party (PPP) is considering to establish caretaker set-up after passing Budget-2011-12 in June, 2012, it is learnt. According to sources, for this purpose, the PPP government started consultation with its coalition partners Awami National Party (ANP), Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) and Pakistan Muslim League (PML-Q). The PPP-government also sought the opinion of opposition party Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).
The sources said that the PPP has decided to conduct free, fair and transparent elections. In this regard, the PPP-government has directed the Election Commission of Pakistan to take every possible step to make the voters' lists transparent with the co-operation of the National Database & Registration Authority (Nadra).
The sources said that senior leadership of PPP also contacted PML-N leadership and sought its opinion for establishing caretaker set-up after June, 2012 for early election in the country. However, the PML-N did not give any response so far to the PPP-Government. They said that senior leaders of PPP also met Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan and discussed the caretaker set-up and early elections in the country. The PPP leadership also ensured the PML-N for holding free, fair and transparent parliamentary elections.
The sources said that the present coalition set-up of the government is also committed to enter the same alliance in coming elections. In this regard, the PML-Q is in negotiations with PPP for seat adjustment in Punjab. About Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), the sources said that the PPP admitted the PTI as the emerging third political force of the country. However, the PPP leadership was confident that PTI despite being the third biggest political force would not dent the vote bank of PPP.
The sources said that some senior leaders including Munzoor Ahmed Wattoo and Qamar Zaman Kaira of PPP Tuesday also discussed the issue of caretaker set-up with Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani at Prime Minister Secretariat. They also discussed the on-going Memogate scandal with the Prime Minister, sources added. When contacted Qmar Zaman Kaira confirmed and said that the senior leaders met today (Tuesday) with the Prime Minster and discussed current political situation in the country, the sources concluded.
