Agriculture products from Pakistan: PAMCO sets up teams to explore European markets potential
Punjab Agriculture and Meat Company (PAMCO) has constituted three marketing teams comprising representatives from public and private sectors to explore the potential of European markets for agricultural products from Pakistan. These marketing teams will visit European markets including Germany, carry out comparison of prices of agricultural and other products and look for wholesale dealers to ensure securing place in these markets for products from Pakistan, especially from Punjab.
Decision to this effect was taken seeing the response being received by the Pakistani agricultural and horticulture products showcased in the International Green Week (IGW) in Germany. Pakistani kinnow, vegetables and other products got lot of popularity among the visitors due to splendid taste, aroma and colours.
This was disclosed by the PAMCO Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr Hamid Jalil while reviewing the participation by the Pakistani exporters in IGW and response received by the products. According to information received here from Berlin (Germany) on Tuesday, PAMCO Chief Dr Hamid Jalil termed entry of Pakistani products into European markets as a matter of pride for all stakeholders. While the Punjab Secretary for Livestock Hamid Yaqub Sheikh thanked the German government and organisers of the IGW for providing a chance to display Pakistani products.
PAMCO is participating in International Green Week (Germany) as primary exhibitor from Pakistan (Punjab), while 20 companies are attending it as co-exhibitor. The company has also constituted three committees comprising representatives from public and private sector to meet wholesale dealers of local (German) market and other European markets and ensure display of Pakistani products on super stores of these countries.
PAMCO Chief Executive Dr Hamid Jalil said that Europe is a big market and our growers can earn more benefit by selling their products here. He said that it only became possible when the Chief Minister Punjab Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif co-operated in getting different international certificates including Global GAP, IFS, BRC and others for our agricultural products. The Punjab Secretary Agriculture Arif Nadeem said that the provincial government was working on 'traceable Pakistan' due to which buyers would be able to trace the data of all Pakistani products on through use of computer. He said all the products exhibited in Berlin are traceable from farm to fork.
Meanwhile according to the PAMCO spokesman different Pakistani commercial counsellors visited PAMCO stall and appreciated the efforts by the provincial government and hoped that such initiatives would also be taken in future to look for new markets for Pakistani products.
