'One million children enrolled in schools this year in Punjab'

Provincial Minister for Education Mian Mujtaba Shuja ur Rehman has said that a blend of talent and hard work is the basis for all human development and Pakistani nation is lucky to have both these qualities in its young generation.
He was speaking at the prize distribution ceremony held in honour of the winners of Brain of Lahore quiz competition at the Trust School Aamir Town, Harbuns Pura here Sunday.
The minister said that the Brain of Lahore competition arranged among the most brilliant students of 296 schools of Lahore was unprecedented. Congratulating "Brain of Lahore 2012" Sauda Ibrahim on her success, he said that intelligent students were the asset of the nation and the government had provided all its resources for polishing their talent.
He said that extra-curricular activities side by side academic activities play an important role in the balanced development of human personality. Keeping in view this fact, he said, Chief Minister Punjab was taking keen interest in promotion of sports as well as holding of speech and essay writing competitions among students.
He said that education was the top priority of the government and it was also awarding cash prizes and scholarships to brilliant boy and girl students. He said that one million children have enrolled in schools this year as a result of primary enrolment campaign of the government.
He said that 2.5 million male and female students were benefiting annually from the project of setting up of IT labs in schools while scholarships were being given to more than 30,000 boy and girl students from Punjab Educational Endowment Fund.
He further said that distribution of 125,000 computers this year was also a shining example of encouragement of students and this process would continue in future too, he added.
He said that educational institutions like the Trust School were discharging an important national obligation by providing quality and affordable education to the students.
