3G licence auction on March 28-29

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) on Saturday announced that it will hold auction for license/spectrum of 3G/4G/LTE on March 28 and 29. The authority''s decision on 3G license auction came at the Second Investment Awareness Conference held at a hotel, which Hafeez Shaikh as chief guest attended with PTA Chairman Dr Muhammad Yaseen.
Addressing the investors at the conference, Hafeez said the process of auction for license/spectrum of 3G/4G/LTE would be transparent in line with the rules and regulations. He made it clear that the process of auction would be carried out on a professional basis, hoping the new technology would scale up opportunities in the fields of education, health, agriculture and banking sector to ensure a better future to the nation.
Dr Mohammed Yaseen also hoped the introduction of 3G technology in the country would boost up the telecom industry besides helping the subscribers transmit and receive high-speed data through their handsets. "High speed data means possibility of video calls, Internet browsing and downloading at a much higher speed, which also includes usage of data intensive applications," he elaborated.
He also briefed the participants about the performance of telecom sector, besides the auction process of 3G licensing. Chairman International Chamber of Commerce Karachi, Tariq Ragoonwala termed the conference as a "historic achievement" of PTA and hoped "the technology which is available in many countries would now benefit Pakistan consumers as well."
He said the introduction of 3G license would augment social and economic growth, besides helping increase the revenue of operators and the government. DG Strategy and Development, Waseem Tauqeer highlighted the key features of Information Memorandum (IM). At the end of the session, Member Technical, Khawar Siddique Khokhar replied to queries regarding the technology.
