Overcoming power, water crises: government urged to build Kalabagh Dam on emergent basis

Agri Forum Pakistan Chairman, Muhammad Ibrahim Mughal has urged government to immediately start construction of Kalabagh Dam and other water reservoirs so that power and water crisis could be overcome. Talking to media persons, here on Tuesday, he was of the view that anti Kalabagh Dam lobby present in Pakistan might stop its opposition if its construction contract is given to an Indian company.
He alleged that this year we had wasted water equivalent to four Kalabagh Dams, which could had been used for producing power and irrigating crops. This water could had saved the country from load-shedding and brought down the irrigation expenses to Rs 100 per acre instead of Rs 3000 per acre in the Rabi season, he claimed.
Mughal further said that those bureaucrats who issued NOC to India for construction of controversial dams were either sitting in the ministry of water and power or had been retired. He said that the PM should order accountability of such elements so as to avoid any such thing in the future. He said the nation had given billions of rupees in electricity bills for Neelum-Jhelum project and it could provide electricity and water to the nation in suitable quantity if completed before coming June.
