The chairman of his own faction of Pakistan People's Party (Sherpao), Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao has called for holding early elections to steer the country out of prevailing abnormal and messy situation. Speaking at the party provincial council meeting here at Hayatabad on Saturday, he said that fresh election is the only solution to overcome political and economic problems confronting the country.
He asked the government to resign after its failure and announce a free, fair and impartial election under an independent elections commission in consultation with opposition parties. Flanked by Anisa Zeb Tahir Kheli, Sikandar Khan Sherpao, and provincial leaders, activists and workers, he said the voters' lists should also be fair so that everyone could cast vote in all the constituencies.
Aftab said that his party would oppose any unconstitutional move against democracy. However, he said, it does not mean that the rulers will continue exploitation of the poor people by using name of democracy in the country. He outrightly rejected the resolution moved by Awami National Party president in the National Assembly in favour of the government and asked the rulers to resign after accepting their failure. He announced the schedule for fresh elections would overcome the grave prevailing crisis in the country.
He said that ANP president Asfandyar's resolution in support of incumbent government had proved that he was involved in the massive corruption and wants the rulers to continue loot and plunder of the national wealth. He said that millions of rupees had been spent on session just to give a cover to the massive corruption of the rulers by passing the resolution for defending the rulers. He added that the real issues had been ignored and rulers were busy only to save their faces.
Sherpao said it was utmost responsibility of the ANP leader to raise voice for solution to the problems confronting faced by Pakhtuns, restoration of peace, and provision of jobs to the youths, because they got vote on name of peace and their welfare. He said that KP had adversely been affected in prevailing situation of the country. He added that the people of the province had faced several challenges from earthquake and militancy to floods but the leaders in the provincial government were busy only to avail mineral resources through leases and spend national money on holding public meetings.
He said that the only solution to the problems in the existing time was to hold independent election in consultation with opposition parties and hold free, fair and impartial elections. He also criticised the government for not following judgements of superior judiciary and making mockery of the courts. He said that if the government took any action against the state institutions the country would suffer a lot and the ruling parties would be held responsible for the repercussions.
