Punjab Agriculture and Meat Company (PAMCO) is organising a two-day international Halal Conference and Expo from Monday (tomorrow) in Lahore to promote the Halal industry in the province and introduce Pakistani products in the international market. Delegates from Malaysia, China, Russia, US, South Africa, UAE and many other countries are invited to the conference, said PAMCO Chief Dr Hamid Jalil on Saturday.
Talking about the conference Dr Jalil said that Pakistan had the potential to produce Halal products and by-products. Pakistan could not only meet the domestic requirements but could also export. PAMCO had local livestock farmers Global GAP certified. An international standard slaughterhouse had been constructed and now the company was looking for international buyers.
This event is also aimed at making inroads into the international halal market and developing our meat sector on commercial basis. Secretary Livestock and Dairy Development Department Hamid Yaqub Sheikh said that Pakistan was the only country in the world, which produces 100 percent Halal products. However, he stressed the need for developing the industry on scientific lines. The government was extending financial help to the growers to meet the international standards, he added.
Punjab Minister for Agriculture Ahmad Ali Aulakh will inaugurate the opening session of the conference while Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif would be the chief guest at the concluding session. On the first day, the conference will be held while the second day is reserved for field visits of the delegates including visit to the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) and Lahore Meat Processing Complex etc.
