Sindh police on Saturday claimed to have foiled a terrorist bid during Chehlum of Imam Hussain as three alleged members of Tehrik Taliban Pakistan (TTP) including a suicide bomber were arrested in separate raids, with huge quantity of arms and ammunition.
According to police, a team of Crime Investigation Department (CID) on a tipoff conducted raid at National Highway near Abbot Factory in the limits of Shah Latif Area and arrested two alleged members of TTP, namely Azeem Ahmad Sheikh alias Anees, and Zubair Alam alias Munna, and recovered five rockets, two triple-2 rifles and several rounds from them. They said the accused Sheikh, hailing from Hyderabad, joined al Qaeda on the directives of Tahir and Ismail in 2009. They added that he is expert in making remote controlled bomb.
Moreover, they said, accused Talat, who belonged to al Qaeda, gave the custody of Zubair to Sheikh and added that accused Zubair, who was brainwashed by Talat for suicide blast, was given a task from Sheikh to target SP Chaudhry Aslam. Police said accused Sheikh during initial course of investigation confessed to have killed seven persons including an advocate namely Syed Mukhtiar Bukhar on the directives of Tahir. Further investigation is underway to dig out more information.
In another raid, another notorious TTP member Muhammad Dawood alias Waleed alias Ishaq was arrested from Moach Goth and 50 kg explosive material was recovered from him with four SMGs, 1 LMG, 1 rocket launcher, 2 mortar launchers, 10 grenades, 2 Kalashnikovs, 2 TT pistols, 20 ft detonator wires, 2 detonators and 1000 rounds. According to AIG CID Ghulam Shabir Sheikh, the accused person, who got trained in Waziristan, is bomb maker and was involved in almost all major terrorist activities in Karachi.
The detained person during initial course of investigation said that he was the mastermind of Abdullah Shah Ghazi, CID, Sea View blasts. The accused person in his statement said that Badshah Khan and Abdullah were the suicide bombers in Abdullah Shah Ghazi blast while they had planned to blow up the said shrine again but the blast went off accidentally at Sea View.
The AIG said that the accused had planned to flare up terrorist activities during Chehlum of Imam Hussain but the plan has been flopped after his arrest. He said the accused person had made a list for terrorist activities, according to which, CID and other security agencies' offices, 5-star hotels, shrines, Imam Bargahs would be their targets. Further investigation was underway for more information.
