Published Updated

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Information Iftikhar Hussein said here on Saturday that two suicide bombers exploded themselves while the third one was gunned down by police. About eight to ten terrorists attempted to storm the office of the D I Khan District Police Officer (DPO). The terrorists had climbed the nearby buildings and attacked the office from all sides.
However, a heavy contingent of anti-terrorism squad and police cordoned off the area and exchanged fire with terrorists. People heard at least seven explosions, which were stated to be caused by hand grenades. The spokesman of the provincial government confessed that the incident was due to security lapse, saying that the terrorists had come with complete preparation. But he added that prevention of such incidents is the responsibility of the law enforcement agencies (LEAs). He said that District Police Officer (DPO) remained unhurt in the incident.
He said that through such incidents militants were making attempts to make their presence felt. He said that the creation of harmony between Pakistan and Afghanistan on the elimination of terrorism is must, adding that without it such incidents would continue to occur. The provincial police chief of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Akbar Khan Hoti, also confirmed the killing of one suicide bomber in the incident. He said that the attackers were wearing police uniforms.
