The Managing Director of Lahore Stock Exchange (LSE), Aftab Ahmad, has taken the first step towards national financial literacy awareness program for youth. As part of the 'Young Investors Scheme' (first nation-wide campus outreach program of its kind), first seminar was held at Economics Society, FC College Lahore.
He briefed the students that the 'young investor scheme' is a national financial literacy training program for young investors. Its primary goal is to provide young investors with skills to learn, save and invest the money. He said that young people are often confronted with complicated financial decisions in today's demanding financial environment, and financial mistakes early in life can have opportunity costs. To be able to cope, they need better financial education and access to critical resources to make smarter decisions.
The young investor scheme aims at enabling the youngsters to efficiently manage their finances and cope with the tough financial decisions. He also highlighted various initiatives to be taken by the LSE in future to promote business opportunities and investment in various sectors of Pakistan. He informed the students that there are many opportunities at small and medium scales still waiting to be tapped, and the stock exchange is fully equipped to facilitate these investments.
This would also offer a broader array of investment opportunities to all types of investors. He apprised them about the steps taken by the Exchange in recent times to enhance the confidence and trust of the investors in the functioning of the Exchange as a frontline regulator. Especially, the Exchange is committed to provide transparent and fair dispute resolution mechanism for adjudicating disputes arising between members/brokers of the Exchange and the investors.
Mazhar Rafique, a Director of Lahore Stock Exchange, briefed the students about current market conditions and investment decisions. He further highlighted the role of brokerage houses and their contribution towards social and economic development of the country.
