Pakistan Tahreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan has said that his party would not support any unconstitutional and anti-democratic step. He was responding to a question on 'a possibility of martial law imposition in the country' during a press conference held here on Wednesday.
When asked about the recent development in Islamabad regarding change in defence secretary, he avoided the question. However, he did say that at present NRO (National Reconciliation Ordinance) system is running in the country. He said former US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, in her book, revealed that they (the US) got the corruption cases dropped against the corrupt leaders through NRO, so that a government could be formed in Pakistan that implements their plan. "From day one, the PTI was against the NRO, which is against democratic norms and hence we boycotted the elections," he added.
Khan said that his observation has proven right; the NRO democracy has created crisis in the country. He observed that just save their ill-gotten money, the rulers are creating a situation that leads to clash of institutions.
To another question, he reiterated the support for the Chief Justice and added if any party clashes with the judiciary, they will come out on streets in its support. He got furious on a question about the induction of new members in to the party. While hushing up a journalist, he reiterated that anyone is welcomed into the PTI; however, the party will only award party tickets to a clean person.
Khan came hard on two leading political parties. He said no 'family parties' can implement the Quaid's vision; only his party, which is based on true democratic norms, can do that. He observed that both the PPP and PML-N lost credibility in the last 25 years, as massive deterioration has taken place in their party structure as well as governance.
On the occasion, Inamullah Khan Niazi of PML-N, former federal minister Khalid Kharal of PPP, former provincial minister Shahnawaz Cheema of PPP, MPA Mian Mumtaz Matiana of PPP, PML-Q president Bawalnagar Mazhar Khan, Fazal Khan of PPP and their supporters announced to join PTI. While addressing the media, Inamullah Khan Niazi lambasted the PML-N for marginalising its die-hard workers. He said they (the PML-N diehard workers) gave their blood for the party, but their services were never recognised by the PML-N leadership. These workers were victims of PML-N's target killing who were thrown out of the party. Like them, I was abandoned and my resignation from the PML-N was just a formality," he added.
