Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on Sunday said that the government would solve the electricity and gas shortage in next few months to provide relief to the people.
Addressing a ceremony organised in connection with 84th birth anniversary of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto at Qasba Khanpur Maral, Gilani reiterated his commitment to accomplish the mission of martyred Pakistan People''s Party (PPP) leaders for empowerment of the people.
He said that PPP government was moving forward in accordance with the constitution and added that those accusing the government of not adhering to constitution were actually misleading the people.
He said that PPP was a federal party and attempts to weaken it would harm country''s interests. He said that the federal party and the constitution were vital for strengthening the country. The prime minister said that Shaheed Zulfikar Bhutto gave constitution to the country and made its defence impregnable by successfully launching nuclear programme. Shaheed Benazir Bhutto further strengthened the country''s defence by adding missile technology to the defence arsenal, he added.
Gilani said that PPP-led government countered many challenges and difficulties from the very beginning. The incumbent government had also been facing conspiracies from the day one but was surviving successfully by virtue of support of the masses of the country.
He said that PPP was a federal party having popular support of people including peasants, growers, workers and other poor segments of society in all the four provinces besides AJK, FATA and Gilgit-Baltistan. It was this popularity that paved the way for party''s victory with comfortable majority in recent AJK elections, he added. The prime minister reiterated his commitment to solve all the problems of the people. He said that the government gave autonomy to the provinces and added that Seraiki province would also be set up to end the sense of deprivation of the people of this area.
People of this area would have their own Assembly and take decisions in accordance with their will to solve their own problems, he added. He said that some elements say that we are politicking on Seraiki province issue and were not serious in it, but, I want to ask should we launch move for the purpose or adopt the constitutional way, PM questioned adding that government was moving forward on the issue in accordance with the constitution.
He said that Shaheed Bhutto gave the constitution to this country and PPP-led government restored this constitution in accordance with its original spirit.
Earlier, the prime minister opened the ceremony by cutting a cake to celebrate 84th birth anniversary (Jan 5) of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. The prime minister''s son Ali Musa Gilani, Rai Mansab Ali and Habibullah Shakir also addressed the gathering on this occasion.
The prime minister''s brother and in-charge PM''s camp office in Multan Syed Ahmad Mujtaba Gilani, Malik Mukhtar Ahmad Awan, and others local PPP leaders were also present on the occassion.
