Uganda's coffee exports rose 2.3 percent in December compared to the same month in the previous year, helped by favourable weather, a source at the Uganda Coffee Development Authority (UCDA) said on Friday. The east African country, which is on the cusp of becoming a top-50 crude oil producer, is one of Africa's leading exporters of the beans and earnings from the crop are a major source of foreign exchange.
UCDA said Uganda, which primarily cultivates the robusta variety, exported 243,301 60-kilogramme bags of coffee in December, compared with 237,747 bags in the same month the previous year.
