Taj Haider General Secretary of Pakistan People's Party Sindh on Thursday met with Vice-Chancellor of University of Sindh Professor Dr Nazir A Mughal in his office and expressed condolences on his behalf and on behalf of Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah on the assassination of Professor Bashir Ahmed Channer.
The Pro Vice-Chancellor Dr Parveeen Shah, Registrar Akhtar Ahmed Memon were also in the meeting. Taj Haider paid tribute and said that Professor Channer was a very daring scholar who sacrificed his life for the cause of education and betterment of educational atmosphere in the campus.
The Vice-Chancellor on this occasion briefed Taj Haider regarding the progress of All Parties' Conference, Monitoring Committee and development of the code of conduct and its implementation. He informed that last meeting of the Monitoring Committee unanimously approved that University administration should take action against those who are involved in violation of University rules and discipline and creating law-and-orders situation. He further informed that yesterday teachers also protested and demanded the arrest of culprits involved in the murder of Professor Channer. He informed Taj Haider that the teachers also said that they would not extend any co-operation in academic programmes which are in pipeline including academic convocation scheduled to be held on 14th January will be disturbed if the culprits are not arrested.
Haider expressed satisfaction over the progress of the Monitoring Committee in light of recommendations of APC and said that assassination of Professor Channer was an act to sabotage reform initiatives of the Vice-Chancellor and subsequently the progress achieved through the APC convened to promote peace and deweaponise the Campus.
He said that Chief Minister Sindh has taken very serious note of assassination of Professor Channer and specially deputed him to meet with Vice-Chancellor and offer full co-operation and he added that Chief Minister Sindh is looking forward very keenly over the efforts for arrest of the culprits. He said that we are determined and all efforts on the part of the Government of Sindh will be made to arrest the culprits. He showed determination regarding the arrest of culprits at any cost and said that the culprits will be arrested at all cost and will be punished according to the law. Taj Hadier also expressed deep concern on assassination of University Professor at the campus in daylight and added it is a very tragic loss of the society.
He said that Professor Channer rendered his services to the Nation and Government would not compromise. Taj Haider expressed satisfaction on action taken by the University Vice-Chancellor and offered full support to the University on behalf of the Chief Minister Sindh. He also appreciated that the University of Sindh has announced the relief for the family of late professor and constituted a high powered committee to conduct detailed enquiry and added that Government of Sindh will fully cooperate with the enquiry committee.
