Creation of new provinces: PML-N proposes Parliamentary Commission
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has proposed a Parliamentary Commission to chalk-out strategy for division of assets, liabilities, sharing of water and resources from National Finance Commission (NFC) Award etc before creation of new provinces in the country.
"The PML-N is not opposed to the creation of new provinces but wants proper rules and procedure be followed according to the constitution for this purpose. New provinces should be established on administrative not linguistic basis. The federation should be strengthened not weakened after the creation of new provinces. The PML-N wants to constitute a Commission to settle all these matters before creation of new provinces," the Opposition Leader told media persons outside the parliament building on Thursday. He said that it is prerogative of the government to form a Commission and Opposition is ready to discuss the issue of new provinces and will follow every legal and constitutional way for this purpose.
The PML-N would oppose any illegal or unconstitutional move in this regard, he said. He said that approval of Provincial Assemblies with two-thirds majority is also necessary for creation of new provinces. He said that MQM, which do not have even a single seat of councillor in the proposed provinces is creating more hue and cry. The particular party is resorting to political gimmick in and outside the parliament and making it a political issue for point scoring.
He said that the government wants to raise the issue of new provinces to divert the attention of people from the real issues like gas and power load shedding, corruption and bad governance. Answering to a question, Chaudhry Nisar said that the Prime Minister did nothing except corruption, bad governance and making public institutions including PIA, Pakistan Steel Mills, Pakistan Railways etc unviable.
