At least four persons sustained injuries in a drive-by terrorist attack at a private mobile franchise in the limits of North Nazimabad police station on Monday. This is the second terrorist attack on a private mobile franchise during the last ten days.
The first terrorist attack was reported on December 22, 2011 when two armed assailants barged into a private mobile outlet and opened indiscriminate firing that left two persons killed and two others wounded in North Nazimabad. Now the terrorists have made the second successful attack in the same area, marking a big question mark over the performance of the Sindh police, which is still clueless to identify the culprits and their motives.
According to SSP Asad Chaudary, two armed riders threw hand grenade at the said mobile franchise located at Sher Shah Soori Road near Hyderi market in the limits of North Nazimabad police station, leaving four persons including two security guards namely Zafar and Younus injured. The injured were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for treatment.
Following the said incident, heavy contingent of police, rangers and other security agencies rushed to the spot and cordoned off the area. Meanwhile, in-charge Hyderi police check post Fasihuddin rejected the claim that Improvised Explosive Device (IED) had been used in the attack, saying that it was hand-grenade attack and police had also obtained CCTV footage of the incident.
The officials of Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) claimed that Russian-made hand grenade was used in this act of terrorism. Investigators on a condition of anonymity said that it was premature to say anything about the identity of the culprits and their motives but both attacks appeared linked with each other. A case 01/12 was registered against unidentified attackers under sections 7ATA, 324 of Pakistan Penal Code and 3/4 Explosive Act on the complaint of security In-charge Manzar. Further investigation is underway.
