Lahore Education Reporters Association (LERA) elections for the year 2012 were held at Punjab University on Saturday, which elected Mansoor Malik of Dawn as President, Sajjad Kazmi of Ausaf as Vice President, Azhar Maqbool as General Secretary, Zaheer Abbas of INP as Finance Secretary and Arsalan Haider of Daily Times as Information Secretary.
According to details the elections were held at New Campus where education reporters from print and electronic media caste their votes to elect their representatives. Close competition was observed for the seat of Information Secretary between Arsalan Haider and Hafiz Hassan Raza, which was won by Arsalan Haider while Mansoor Malik, Sajjad Kazmi, Azhar Maqbool and Zaheer Abbas were elected unopposed as President, Vice President, General Secretary and Finance Secretary respectively.
Talking to media Mansoor Malik said that he would try his best to make association more functional and would try to meet the expectations of the members. Vice-President Sajjad Kazmi said that he would try to solve the problems of reporters on top priority basis. General Secretary Azhar Maqbool said that his primary objective is to get the membership of Press Club for those LERA members who are not successful in getting the Press Club membership.
Minister for Education Mian Mujtaba Shuja-ur- Rahman, Chariman Punjab Education Foundation Raja Anwar, VC Punjab University Mujahid Kamran, VC GCU Khaliq ur Rahman, VC UET Muhammad Akram, VC UVAS Dr Talat Naseer Pasha, President Punjab Professors and Lecturers Association Zahid Sheikh, President Punjab Teachers Union Sajjad Kazmi and Secretary Rana Liaqat congratulated the newly elected LERA executive body.
