The legislators of the Balochistan Assembly session on Wednesday passed a resolution demanding of the Sindh government to arrest killers of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (JUI) leader's son Hafiz Ahmed Qamar. The assembly session started with Deputy Speaker Syed Matiullah Agha in chair one hour late behind its schedule.
Minister for Labour and JUI leader Maulana Sarwar Musakhel moved the resolution, which reads that this house recommends the provincial government to approach the federal government asking it to make the Sindh government bound to ensure arrest of the killers of Hafiz Ahmed Qamar, the son of JUI Khuzdar leader Maulana Qamaruddin who had been tortured to death in Karachi.
Delivering his speech, the mover said that Karachi had become a massacre of religious scholars, as many renowned clerics had been killed in this city. Senior Minister for Planning and Development and JUI parliamentary leader Maulana Abdul Wasey said that religious scholars were being gunned down to implements conspiracy of sparking sectarianism. He also criticised the National Highway Authority (NHA) for not releasing funds for uncompleted road projects of Balochistan.
Finance Minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Q (PML-Q) parliamentary leader Mir Asim Kurd Gailo demanded of the Sindh government to bring killers of Hafiz Qamar to justice. Minister for Public Health Engineering and JUI leader Maulana Abdul Bari Agha said that mosques and Imambargahs were being attacked and religious scholars were being killed in Balochistan.
He said that Hafiz Qamar who was studying in a religious seminary in Karachi was tortured to death by armed men, while law enforcement personnel were also present there. He also sought recovery of six abducted workers of a non-governmental organisation of Balochistan Rural Support Programme (BRSP) who were kidnapped from Barshor area.
The chair put the resolution to the house who adopted it unanimously. Minister for Quality Education and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Jan Ali Changezi paid rich tributes to Shaheed Benazir Bhutto for her services for democracy. Minister for Gwadar Development Authority Mir Zahoor Buledi demanded for arrest of the killers of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto. Minister and JUI-N leader Bashar Dost lamented that people were being kidnapped and killed in Balochistan.
Minister for Health and JUI leader Aainullah Shams said that very low gas pressure and high tariff of natural gas had created problems for people of Balochistan particularly of Quetta and northern Balochistan who had been facing minus 10 C temperatures at night time. Minister without portfolio and PML-Q leader Nasreen Khaitran said that poor people were suffering due to higher tariff of natural gas.
Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Law and PML-Q leader Shama Pervin Magsi regretted that NHA was not releasing funds for ongoing road projects in Balochistan. Minister Jaay Parakash said that people of minorities were being kidnapped for ransom in Balochistan. Minister for Wasa Habibur Rehman Muhammad Hasni alleged that Pakistan Telecommunication Corporation Limited (PTCL) had suspended its telephone service in several cities of Balochistan. Later, the chair prorogued the session.
