Sindh police on Wednesday claimed to have arrested seven persons and recovered weapons and foreign currency from their possession in the limits of Frere police station. According to Frere SHO Ishaq Lashari, raids were conducted on a tipoff that a gang involved in committing street crimes was hiding in parts of the locality.
Following the information, several raids were conducted that led to the arrests of seven suspects involved in numerous street crimes. The SHO said that the arrested persons were identified as Nazir, Nadeem, Arif, Qasim, Abid, Hidayatullah and Nadir. The police had also recovered six TT pistols, one Kalashnikov and cash $300 from them, he added.
Moreover, he said, Abid and Hidayatullah were involved in snatching $18,000 from an employee of money exchanger on December 20 from Boat Basin limits, while rest of the arrested persons were nominated in several street crimes incidents. Cases were registered against them and further investigation was in progress, the SHO said.
