USAID-Funded Need-Based Merit Scholarship Programme: IMS Peshawar recommends names of 10 more students

Institute of Management Sciences, Peshawar has recommended 10 more deserving students for USAID Funded Need Based Merit Scholarship Programme.
The Institutional Scholarship Award Committee, which is selected by Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan on the basis of the members integrity in public sector, comprised of Rahimullah Yusufzai (Executive Editor "The News"), Professor Dr Haider Shah (Vice Chancellor Islamia College University Peshawar), Dr Nasir-ud-Din Azam (A well-respected Physician of Pakistan), Muhammad Saood Pasha (Programme Director HEC), Tariq Wadood (Project Manager HEC), Dr Muhammad Mohsin Khan (Joint Director IM Sciences Peshawar) and other members from senior management of the Institute.
The Institute of Management Sciences, in the last five years has funded a total of 4,608 students, hailing from different family backgrounds, as well as, different areas from Waziristan Agency in South to Hunza, Gilgit and Chitral in the North of Pakistan.
The financial impact of these funds goes up to the tune of Rs 339.90 million. The project committee appreciated these efforts, for ensuring equal opportunities to all students and deciding the cases purely on merit. For Session 2011-2015 a total of ten more deserving students have been approved for award of scholarship, out of 321 candidates who applied for financial aid. The characteristic feature of the programme is 40 percent reservation for female and FATA students. The mentioned ten scholarships are funded by the USAID Pakistan, under which uptill now, the Institute has awarded 152 fully funded scholarships, amounting to the tune of Rs 53.44 million.
Dr Nasir ud Din Azam, reiterated the need of contribution by the students, who have availed this opportunity and are now serving in the market. He said they must contribute to the scholarship fund of the Institute, which supported them in their hard times. Rahimullah Yousafzai stressed that the programme must be extended to fund other disciplines along with management studies, and the programme should also attract more candidates from slum areas in different cities of Pakistan.
The officials from Higher Education Commission showed their satisfaction on the publicity campaign and outreach activities of the Institute, which attracted deserving students from financially weak family backgrounds to benefit from this valuable programme.-PR
