PPP ready for accountability by people: Chandio

Published Updated

Federal Law Minister Senator Moula Bux Chandio has said that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) is ready for its accountability by the people and after completion of constitutional term of the government, the PPP will present itself for accountability before the countrymen who are the best judge to decide its performance for the country.
The Minister expressed these views while addressing a reception of Sindh High Court Bar Association and later addressing the media-persons here on Saturday. He said that the politics of the country is moving around the personality of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, as whenever the PPP comes into power, the conspirators started hatching conspiracies against the democratically elected government.
He said that at present, President Asif Ali Zardari is facing baseless criticism from the opponents because he is the son-in-law of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and spouse of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto. The PPP always welcomed the opponents whenever it came into power, with the aim to strengthen the democracy and democratic norms in the country, but it received a negative response from them in every regime, he said and added that even at present efforts were being made to form an alliance like PNA in the past.
The Minister said that those persons are demanding the arrest of assassins of Benazir Bhutto, who registered false cases against her and forced the first woman prime minister of the Islamic World to live in exile. These persons never produced evidences against President Asif Ali Zardari when they were in government and now they were demanding reopening of those cases, he said.
The Minister said that it was the present PPP government, which initiated historic steps including the passage of 18th Amendment of the Constitution and NFC Award with consensus of all the provinces. The members of Parliament of the party of Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif are enjoying the perks and privileges, but on the other hand, their chief approached the Supreme Court by expressing no confidence in the Parliament, Chandio said.
They were also criticising Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani for a statement, in which, he maintained the supremacy of the Parliament, but no one can deny the fact that Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif had sought co-operation from US President Bill Clinton against Pakistan Army after Kargil Operation. The fact can be found in his own book, he added.
Senator Moula Bux Chandio said that Mian Brothers have developed a habit of challenging all steps of the present government in the court, but they never challenged the acts, which were initiated by General Pervez Musharraf (Retd) during his regime but went abroad for a period of ten years.
The Law Minister said that after Abbottabad incident, Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif had started using the same language against the Army and ISI, which was adopted by America and now the Punjab Chief Minister is describing the statement of the Prime Minister, as against the institutions.
The PPP has deep respect for judiciary and it always wholeheartedly accepted the decisions for the country, the Minister said and added that PPP always adopted legal and constitutional ways to approach the court for review against the decisions instead of attacking the Supreme Court, as witnessed by the people in the past.
The Minister said that after Memogate Issue, Pakistan's Ambassador to the US, Hussain Haqqani had tendered resignation from the post to pave way for a transparent enquiry into the matter. He said that those who are levelling allegations against the PPP government for its failure in good governance have forgotten the fact that the present government had inherited all institutions in a destructed condition and the government is still striving to salvage those destroyed institutions of the country.
