Published Updated

Sindh Agriculture department would distribute more 5000 tractors to growers in fiscal year 2011-12, according to Annual Development Programme (ADP) 2011-12, Business Recorder learnt on Wednesday. Agriculture department had given 4000 tractors to the growers through balloting in FY2010-11 and 5000 tractors in FY 2009-08 as well.
Agriculture department had once again submitted the scheme of giving 5000 tractors to growers in FY 2011-12. Though, Agriculture department is working for spreading tractors network in the province, but the ratio of per tractor in Sindh is still on 800 acres which creates difficulties for growers because it has to be per tractor on 100 acres, sources said.
In Punjab, the ratio is per tractor on 100 acres but Sindh is facing still huge gap for filling in this regard, sources said. Secretary Agriculture Agha Jan Akhtar has confirmed this with Business Recorder and said that we are trying to fill the gap of ratio of tractors in the province. He claimed that not the 800 acres but the ratio is one tractor on 500 acres which would be filled within two years if the scheme would remain continue. He said that Sindh government is focusing on the development of agriculture sector; we worked a lot for the rehabilitation of agriculture in the flood damaged areas of the province where the wheat crop cultivated as bumper crop this year.
