PTI's public meeting at Quaid's Mazar: SHC declines interference

A bench of Sindh High Court (SHC) on Wednesday declined to interfere in the affairs of Mazar-e-Quaid-e-Azam in the presence of the Mazar Protection and Maintenance Ordinance 1971.
While hearing a petition, filed by Syed Bahadur Khan and nine others against the holding of a public meeting next to Mazar-e-Quaid by Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) on December 25, the bench observed that the court is not authorised to allow or disallow anyone in respect of holding public meeting or rallies at Mazar-e-Quaid in view of the Mazar Ordinance 1971.
The bench comprising Justice Maqbool Baqar and Justice Imam Bux Baloch observed that holding of public meeting or rally of political parties within limits of the mazar and even at Bag-e-Quaid which is adjacent to the mazar, is unlawful under the said ordinance.
The bench was told by Advocate General Sindh that federal as well as provincial government have denied permission to maintain the sanctity of the Mazar. Only the Board, under which the affairs of the mazar are being managed, is authorised to look into the matters related to the mazar, the bench observed while disposing off the petition.
