An armed clash between two sectarian groups at Shah Faisal Colony on Wednesday left five persons injured. According to police and eyewitnesses, the law and order situation of the locality got deteriorated while heavy contingent of the police reached the scene to bring the situation under control.
Police said the incident took place when the procession of 25th Muharram was passing through from Shah Faisal Colony No 4. As the procession reached the Jamia Farooqia some people from the Jamia asked the mourners to change the procession route but the mourners refused to do so and scuffled with the Jamia people.
Resultantly, five persons namely Yasir Khalil Yousuf, 22, Kamran Lal Khan, 18, Saeed Javed Iqbal, 20, Kaleemullah, 25 and Ghaya uddin, 26 were wounded. Three of them were taken to the private hospital while two others were shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre. The procession, which was carried out from Hussaini Mission Imambargah, was scheduled to culminate at Karbala Imambargah, Shah Faisal Colony.
People also staged protest demonstration over the said incident. The protestors also pelted the police and Rangers with stones. The LEAs used tear gas and charged the protestors with batons to disperse the mob. However, the LEAs couldn't control the law and order situation till filing of this report. DSP Afnan Amin confirmed that it was a sectarian clash and people from both sides traded fore, adding that the identities of the victims are yet to be ascertained. No arrest was made as the LEAs were trying to solve the matter.
