Government urged to remove Form 'D': small traders not to file IT returns

Small traders will skip filing income tax return forms for the current year in protest against the tax 'D' form, despite the fact that the government had agreed to exclude the category. Talking to Business Recorder on Saturday, Chairman of All Karachi Tajir Ittehad (AKTI) said that the small traders would file their income returns only when the government removed the 'D' form condition.
"The FBR Chairman had promised to traders at FPCCI to omit the condition in the tax form, but did not act on his words," he said, and threatened that the traders would not submit reply to the tax collectors' notices. He also warned that traders would stage a protest sit-in in front of Chief Minister House if the government ignored their demand about tax system reforms and removal of the condition, and steps were not taken to arrest the rising street crimes at markets in the metropolis.
"The government should improve the law and order situation in the city, besides making the taxation system easier for a common trader," Atiq Mir demanded, saying that IMF proposals for tax amendment should fully be ignored. He accused the government of framing policies in line with IMF recommendations and serving the financial interest to the global financial intuitions against the national priorities. He urged the government to decrease the gap of distrust between the tax payers and the collectors through a better policy.
