The Turkish economy expanded a hefty 8.2 percent in the third quarter, beating analysts' forecasts and offering little evidence that measures to engineer a slowdown have been successful. Turkey has been posting strong growth, but analysts are concerned about whether it can achieve a soft landing for the economy in view of its huge current account deficit and unorthodox monetary policy aimed at deterring hot money inflows and slowing down loan growth.
Gross domestic product jumped 9.6 percent in the first nine months of 2011, Turkish Statistics Institute figures showed on Monday. Seasonally adjusted, GDP grew 1.7 percent quarter-on-quarter.
