Taiwan stocks rose 0.81 percent on Monday, joining regional bourses in post eurozone deal gains, with Hon Hai Precision and chip maker TSMC higher after announcing November sales results. But construction shares plunged 3.05 percent on a media report that President Ma Ying-jeou has urged the legislature to pass regulations this week widely seen as aimed at tightening the property market.
The new rules, if passed, would make transaction prices more transparent. The main TAIEX index ended 55.74 points higher at 6,949.04. The financial sub-index edged up 0.56 percent.
