Farmers are advised to remove weeds from their standing wheat crops to scale down a considerable loss in the yield, the met office said. The office in its 10-day farmers' advisory urged the growers to start using weedicides or remove the weeds manually. It said weeds consumed considerable moisture and food from the field. As a result, a considerable loss in yield occurs every year.
It said the farmers of irrigated plains of Punjab, Sindh and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa are advised to complete sowing till December 15, 2011, to get a maximum yield. "In case of late sowing, recommended varieties should be cultivated to minimise the loss in yield," the office said. Farmers should irrigate the early-sown crops as per requirement due to dry weather which prevailed in most of the agriculture plains, the office added further.
