Governor Sindh, Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan has urged early start on Mass Transit Schemes and result-oriented steps toward restoration of Karachi Circular Railway and Bus Rapid Transport to provide better commuting facilities to the citizens. He was addressing a meeting at Governor's House in which Japanese International Co-operation Agency (Jica) and Karachi Metropolitan Corporation officials briefed him about the recommended RBT scheme.
Governor noted that Mass Transit Schemes have already been delayed and now the citizens expect practical initiative in this regard. "Keeping in view the growing population of Karachi, provision of modern commuting facilities has become inevitable. We will have to speed up work on Mass Transit System and synchronise it with modern urban commuting needs," he said.
Earlier, the governor was told that BRT is the most successful transport system in the urban cities of the world, and is not only economical but also safe and convenient. He was told that Japan is also providing aid through the Jica for restoration of the KCR and it is being tried to combine both the systems to provide an efficient public transport system for Karachi that could cater to the needs of commuters for next 30 to 50 years. The governor asked to practically implement the programme within three years.
