Taiwan stocks fall

Published Updated

Taiwan stocks fell 0.6 percent in cautious trade on Monday amid lingering concern about the eurozone debt crisis, with smartphone maker HTC sharply lower ahead of a US ruling on its patent war with Apple. The main TAIEX index closed down 42.6 points at 7,098.08, as the electronics sub-index was down 0.75 percent and banking 0.82 percent lower.
HTC plunged by the 7-percent daily. The ITC is set to make a ruling this week on Apple's lawsuit against HTC over patent infringement. HTC shares had plunged recently after the company warned it would see no revenue growth this quarter, a sharp slowdown after growth more than doubled in the first half, and a further sign that bigger rivals Apple and Samsung are pulling away.
