Deputy Comm-issioner, Abdul Aleem Lashari has said that all out efforts should be made to make the three-day anti-polio campaign successful when it is conducted in the district from December 19 to 21.
The councillors, ulema, teachers, parents, representatives of NGOs, students, scouts, health and other departments should play their vital role in this regard. This he said while presiding over a meeting of District Polio Eradication Committee to review the arrangements regarding the anti-polio campaign in the district at his office, here on Saturday.
He directed the officials of health department to organise awareness seminars in every 'taluka' of the district with the collaboration of the education department before the start of the anti-polio campaign here. He stressed the need for mobile teams to visit door to door and ensure administering of anti-polio drops to the children of up-to five years, especially in the remote/ scattered and 'katcha' areas of the district. He assured all possible assistance for the success of polio eradication campaign.
Earlier, District Health Officer, Dr Abdul Fateh Bughio informed the meeting about the arrangements made in this regard. He also informed that the poliovirus is present in this area and we are making all our efforts to control it especially among new-borns in the district. He informed that our mobile teams have reached every village and town of the district and administered anti-polio drops to 283,540 among the children aged up-to five years.
He informed that 69 immunisation centres have also been established in order to immunise people against seven other diseases, and the stock of vaccines for the treatment of Hepatitis "B" is also available with the department. He appealed that parents of left-out children of could call on telephone No.0800-12012 toll free so that mobile teams may be sent to the spot immediately.
Besides, the representative of police department also assured providing transport as well as security facilities to the mobile teams in the districts. It was also decided that for the awareness of people an anti-polio walk/rally will be arranged on December 17 at 9.30 am from Old DHO Office to Jinnah Bagh here.
